Heilung - Live from Ilosaarirock

Heilung at Ilosaarirock, Joensuu, Finland was one of the best live music shows I have ever experienced. Took bunch of photos there and processed them in darktable. Some of the photos might be nsfw in some part of the world, so here is link to my photo gallery.

Tried to create these dramatic and dark, and I think I succeeded but what do you think?

Great pictures! I’ve seen them a few years ago, was quite an experience. The number of people on the stage seems to have increased since then.
It feels somewhat wrong to let them play in daylight, though  (but good for photography, of course).

I feel you nailed it good. Well done, these. Very well done. That’s such a wonderful group and it sounds like a great show.

Thank you Felix and Christopher!

The sun was over the horizon when they started to play after 9pm and that show is definitely made for darker venues. Little bit darktable and I could get some of the darkness on those pictures. Some of those seem to be even bit too dark on this iPad screen, so I need to be more careful in the future when I try to get this kind of look.

I like photographing especially this kind of live music where bands use very nice costumes. Earlier this year I was on small metal festival in my home town. There was some small bands who had similar costumes. Those pictures can be seen here:

You seem to have hit the jackpot in this regard. Seriously good stuff, that.

Before we moved to Europe, I very much enjoyed working with creative people in a studio setting.

Now that I’m here, I feel I might have moved to the wrong place for creativity (refined/conservative Paris). Yes, there are a few creative folks, but it became so difficult to find and work with them that I’ve given up trying (for now, at least). Sure, we had a Zombie Walk that was pretty interesting, and a Mardi Gras parade that’s OK. Seeing your images helps me remember there’s a bigger world out there.

Keep up the good work!
