Help G'MIC Filters

I’m brand new to using this software but have run into some problems. I’m trying to apply a filter to my image, but the preview is just a matte gray screen. When I apply I get a new layer with what the preview is showing.

So far I’ve tried changing my foreground and background colors and checking or unchecking all options in the G’MIC filter dialog box.

I’m running the most recent stable version of G’MIC (3.5.4 I think) for GIMP 3.0.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Two things: Check that you are applying the filter to the correct layer. For example not a transparent layer, there are no pixels to manipulate.
Then in Output Mode you have New layer selected - so it makes a new layer.

Thank you. This wasn’t quite the solution but it led me there. What I needed to do was make sure that the filter I had already applied to the layer was merged into the layer itself. Without the filter, the layer was just the matte gray pictured above.
