Hi everyone, i was looking for some help regarding setting up my GIMP environment for creating textures along other things i might be using the program for in relation to creating assets for video games.
I presently, and exclusively, use a CRT monitor for everything, gaming, movies, etc etc.
I just wanted some help on configuring GIMP so that i have an environment that matches my monitors capabilities, since i haven’t done something like this before and i wouldn’t know where to look for information regarding this.
For some additional information, i am using an LG Flatron T910B, it has been colour calibrated in HCFR software to a D65 White point with the sRGB colour standard, using a power law gamma of 2.25 targeting 100 nits at 100 IRE. This is following the 2000 CIE colour formula.
As for what’s displayed in windows, it provides an 8-bit colour depth and uses the SDR Colour space.
All Windows related colour management settings are at their defaults, so if any changes need to be made their as well, please let me know.
I am also using a Display Port to VGA active converter as my GPU doesn’t support an onboard DAC and VGA connection, so i may not be getting the full capabilities of this particular monitor, but as far as i am aware, i am not losing much in visual quality and Digital to Analog conversion so it is almost lossless or imperceptible.
With all this information in mind, will i need to make any adjustments to the colour preferences tab in the GIMP software? And what adjustments do i need to make? Since i am not a colour scientist and the only experience i have with this sort of thing is doing Colour Calibration of CRT monitors, but i am not sure if something like Windows is still applying a LUT or anything like that so i thought i would come here for help on the matter.
