Help with automated RAW processing for photogrametry data (.arw attached!)

Hey Guys,

i am in the poor situation that i have a lot of images in .arw format that i need to process to .png images with a whole raw workflow of witch i have no clue about.

i would use rawtherapee-cli in comand line and use a “preset” for the images that is alwas the same. i have a (underexposed… the others have iso 1000 so its better) images attached.

my problem is that i dont know what exact steps/settings i should take for this.
my approach would be, geht the exposure right, noise reduction, sharpening, lens correction, color calibration (i have a color card shot). anything else? i think i am missing out on a lot. would be great if someone could give me a hint or help. thank you guys!

I’d do it in GUI, do the exposure adjustments, NR, etc., on one image, then back to file browser, right click on the raw → processing profile operation → Copy, and select all other raw files, and do the same, except selecting Paste this time, and select & right click all of them to Put to Queue and batch process.

As for creative choice, I’m not sure (I can’t download the raw file anyways, “The URL doesn’t have the correct format.”) I’d apply Auto-matched Tone Curve, maybe also changing demosaicing method to RCD+VNG4, also enable Soft Light under Color tab as some cheap but effective adjustments. You can mess with Dehaze or Film Simulation if you want to make fast but eye-pleasing adjustments.

Please do double check if the exposure is even in all exported files, since you mentioned some pictures have better exposure than others.

You may have another issue, as you mention photogrametry data: Rawthereapee and other raw editors aren’t concerned about absolute values, only about “what looks good”. Two things that come to mind immediately are the white balance (changes the ratio between the different colour channels), and the demosaicing (most algorithms cause cross-talk between the different colour channels, and blur the image slightly).

So depending on what you have to do exactly with your images, any of the editors aimed at editing images may not suit your purpose.

(and I get the same error trying to download the image…)
