Help with color issue

Can anyone help me diagnose the following issue: When clicking on an image on the site (for the larger version) there is a huge color shift. This happens under Firefox + Librewolf + Brave.

If this is something I should take to a new thread, please let me know.

An example from the Charge Your Battery thread (pic from @Kurt )

Do you have color management turned on in those browsers?

If you download the image and open it in something that is color manages, what does it look like?

I dont know why i didnt think to check on a downloaded image. Sorry, I should have done that first.

I viewed the downloaded version in Geeqie where I can change the color mgmt profile. Turning it off, exhibits the same change in hues.

So it looks like the pop-up/Frame(?) is ignoring my system color mgmt profile. Presumably, I need to just enforce the profile specifically in the browser as well?

EDIT: So I just checked and in firefox gfx.color_management.mode is set to 1 (full color mgmt) and set to the system profile .icc. AFAIK, that is the correct way to do this, but maybe that way is depreciated.

So digging around more, the issue is only found on some images. I scrolled through vaious play raw threads and the Charge You Battery thread and I would guesstimate about 10% had any issue. Strangely, most of @Kurt s images and about 1/2 of my images exhibited the problem.

Maybe its a gamut/rendering intent issue with this laptop?

This should be the first step yes.

You might need to download some problem images, dump the metadata and have a look at the rendering intent all profiles used. Honestly I see that kind of saturation shift when the embedded profile is Adobe RGB but the viewing app assumes sRGB.

I downloaded the images - they look the same on my system in FastStone Viewer with Color Management selected on …

but:

One has a RawTherapee embedded profile

The other has no embedded profile and no metadata

So I started to go back to download images, and none of them (including the one from my screenshot) are displaying differently all of the sudden. I made no changes. They (AFAICT) made no changes…so…ghosts?

I will keep an eye out. If it happens again maybe I can get more info. Thanks @paperdigits and @cedric
