Hosting pictures and linking to message boards

Hi everyone,

short question:
I am looking for a little webspace solution that would allow me to

  • upload my photos
  • some sort of rights management? Necessary?
  • the option to link photos from my space to message boards (like this or other photo forums)
  • as I am EU based I would prefer an EU based offering
  • I have a bit of webspace so selfhosting would be fine if it is not too complicated and reasonably documented. Space is not super critical. For that use case ~250kb per photo is an estimate
  • That being said, I have no problems with a paid service though
  • Open Source as always prefered

Has anyone experience in this field and maybe some recommendations? Disclaimer: I am not working as an IT professional. I would call myself a tech savvy user. Using Linux is fine, the idea of managing a server that is in the public www still gives me creeps.

I think a while ago, I just put a folder on my webspace and linked from there. Of course I did not document, why would I, so I am back to square one. But again, I would not mind a more elaborate solution. Would NextCloud be able to do that or Piwigo? Full blown CMS?

Nextcloud can do that for sure.

Since you mention that you have your own webspace, try simple-photo-gallery.

As the name suggests, it is really simple and gives you a nice gallery. You can link to images directly from other places.
