Good aurora tonight so a few of us went up and took some shots. -4F at the top of the “hill” but not a bad scene. Tough shooting though with all the spot lights to deal with.
I’m learning how to play with masks and the color-correction module in Darktable (5.0).
Gave it a shot…color balance and tone eq to try to highlight the aurora while minimizing the glare from the light, profiled denoise out of habit, contrast eq for smoothing…as well as some other minor adjustments.

Here’s my fairly simple rendition. I didn’t see any need to get too fancy with masks, I used two instances of “color balance rgb” with inverted copies of a gradient mask, and used these to adjust the contrast and brightness via the brilliance sliders. Thanks for sharing!
What an unworldly scene and unbelievable color contrast. I wish the foreground antenna was pointing up (or an alien in the foreground). _Z3A3932.CR3.xmp (29.9 KB)
