Wow, thanks for sharing; takes me back to a computer graphics course in my first undergraduate degree: Jim Blinn is a name I remember; the texture mapping, including the example strawberry.
It was also particularly interesting to learn how the 2001: A Space Odyssey wire-frame graphics were produced - they were literally frames made of wire!!!

of course jim blinn’s corner (“a trip down the graphics pipeline”, “dirty pixels”) is legendary and highly recommended. golden times of cg research… such a lot of impact, so many fun things still to discover :slight_smile:

… a slightly more modern variant of this interaction between astrophysics and visual effects is maybe this talk by dneg and kip thorne at siggraph 2015, along with the production session that came with it. unfortunately these things don’t appear to be recorded. i thought this was one of the most inspiring sessions i had the good fortune to listen to. loved the 4d hypercube too, although it’s kinda shadowed by a black hole :wink:
