I had to get help from this forum for highlight clipping issues on my main camera, and now I’m here again for images in Darktable from my older camera:
Could anyone please give me any tips on how to make a new preset for this camera? Seems even trickier than my other camera from the little experimentation I’ve tried so far…
PS. Also, anyone know why neither the color calibration nor the white balance module can find the as shot white balance here? In fact, using the color calibration module I can’t get rid of the purple blown highlights no matter what I do, I have to use the white balance module. (It’s the same for all photos from this camera in Darktable, it seems.)
Use inpaint as your HLR and you shouldn’t have an issue… I just took a very fast look…nothing was too bad and either filmic or sigmoid handled things fine (newer filmic might need you to drop the highlight saturation slider .when I use filmic I use v5 with no color preservation and safe curve transitions and you don’t have that small residual that you have with the default v7 and in v6) … Using the auto picker for a global exposure dropped it to 0.1 EV from the default of 0.7EV as it seems to be exposed to the right and doesn’t really need the exposure bump… but otherwise I didn’t see any issues in the white patch other than some CA and the CA module fixed the blue/purple fringe…
The reason the clipped highlights are purple is because they haven’t been reconstructed (properly). However, just like @priort, I don’t see any issues on my computer, so there must be something going on with your DT.
Raw chromatic aberrations + inpaint opposed HL reconstruct, at default settings:
That is not the job of either color calibration or white balance. They are for adjusting the overall colors/cast of the image.
