How can I get the “LOCAL ADJUSTMENTS” tab to show? I want to adjust my RAW’s grain levels?
EDIT: Somebody already resonded through Reddit. But if someone could address the two inquiries below. Thank you.
How can I possibly speed up image processing even if I use a previous generation device (M1 Macbook Air)?
Regarding ART Therapee (v. 1.25.6 GNU GPLv3) , can anyone provide me with a solution on how to access external hard drives through its browser window? It wouldn’t recognize mine.
I can’t speak to ART; but, in RT 5.12 the ‘local adjustments’ tab is now named ‘selective editing’. This is the tab situated between the Advanced and Transform tabs. Click on the tab icon and the available tools will present themselves. First though, please do check out the RawPedia documentation, beginning with its ‘local adjustments’ section (linked above).
Hi @tbransco . Thanks. That’s why I indicated above that somebody already answered through Reddit my #1 inquiry. But thank you also for your effort in helping out.
I know what you mean @paperdigits . I’ll try to copy and paste the reply here. Thanks for the tip. That’s why when someone answers at REDDIT with indecency, hostility, annoyance or sarcasm, I usually don’t give any attention to them. But sometimes I do and try to confront by telling them that the reason why I’m inquiring is because I’m asking for their help or wanted to hear their opinions NOT their ridicules, criticisms or any condescending comments.
I’m not aware that there’s a Rosetta mode under M1 But who am I to make such a statement as I don’t dig in to TERMINAL or similarly based programming languages. Thank you for pointing that out. I’m on Monterey 12.5, Mr. @HIRAM .
To get the best performance I recommend updating to the latest macOS. Any M1 device will be able to use the latest. Monterey is no longer supported by Apple or Homebrew which is the package manager I used to build the RawTherapee release.
Thank you Mr. @HIRAM . While I would want to update, I would still prefer to keep mine on Monterey for “performance/efficiency” reasons. I maybe wrong but somehow, I’m inclined to believe that the OS installed upon purchase of a computer unit would provide better performance on any computer (especially since mine’s 5 years old). To upgrade, “may” compromise speed/efficiency performances. BUT then again, people may provide their arguments against this personal inclination of mine where improved performance may happen upon updating to the latest OS.
Hi Mr. @priort . At a forum where I indicated the issue, the only solution to my M1 Air recognizing the external HD on my ART app is to run the app through TERMINAL. Though he did recommend updating my OS if possible. Thank you for your effort in helping out, sir.
To maintain your computer’s security, stability, and compatibility, Apple recommends using the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac. In general several sources have stated:
There are performance, and security improvements
Updating to the latest macOS version is generally advisable , as Apple’s public software releases are well-tested and stable.
Updating to the latest operating software, such as OS X Sequoia, enables you to strengthen your Mac’s security .
2025 — If your computer is running macOS 12 Monterey or older, it will need to be updated or replaced to continue receiving security updates,
For the best experience, use the latest major version of macOS along with the latest operating system updates.
With the release of macOS Sequoia , Apple will no longer be supporting or providing security updates for macOS Monterey .
If possible, try browsing for the external drives under the /Volumes tree. You may need for the external drive to have a samba share mounted for it to appear…
I can answer your first question.
Step 1 - On the top left you’ll see [File Browser], under that will
be [Queue], and then under that [Editor].
Select/click [Editor].
Step 2 - Then on the right side in the bottom corner should be the
[Show/Hide the Right Panel] button.
Click that if it already isn’t showing the panel.
If it’s already showing the panel, then disregard Step 2
Step 3 - on the Top right of the window should be (Processing Profiles).
It’s not clickable but the dropdown menu directly underneath will show
any presets you already have or ones that you have saved.
Underneath the dropdown menu there will be 8 icons.
From left to right they are [Exposure], [Detail], [Color], [Advanced],
[Local], [Transform], [Raw], and lastly [Metadata].
When you select [Local], the [Local Adjustments] is first at the top.
Yes. I’m the one who posted the inquiry where blacklitnite0 responded. Thanks to him. BUT, right now, I’m not sure why the grain settings isn’t showing under the SELECTIVE EDITING tab. Maybe someone can help me here? Thank you.
Hi Mr. @HIRAM . Yes, before posting, I did see the film grain when I added spot. But if my intention is for the whole image to be added film grain, would there be an option to choose the whole image to edit? Thank you.
Yes, Mr. @HIRAM , just found that out. Thanks a lot. Now, Sir, I’m unfamiliar with ideal settings for film grain in RawTherapee. Could you recommend the necessary figures I can try setting. Thank you.
