How's the weather where you are?

Yes, I have seen this a lot of times, and it puzzles me too.

If we had cannibalism, I would assume that it is a ploy to make sure that meals arrive in a tender pre-cooked state. But lacking that, I have no rational explanation.

Ask your daughter

I’m in Zürich. Our summer has been cool and rainy. Two weeks ago the daily top temperature was often below 20 ˚C (68 ˚F). The current temperature is 20 ˚C, the top today was 25 (77), but we had a short thunderstorm an hour ago.

Hiking has been dangerous due to landslides caused by the rain. Luckily, I’m ill, to I’m safe from the dangers of the mountain side.

Today’s and the weekly forecast:

Quite a bit of difference, to say the least!

The same is true with cold. I grew up in Winnipeg, which is on the short list for coldest cities in the world. There would always be a couple of weeks every winter with -40°. But I was never so cold so often as my first winter in Toronto. High humidity and temperatures right around the freezing point have a way of penetrating you and leaving you with an extended chill.

Scotland is on a similar latitude to Moscow and Alaska so would be a lot colder but for the Gulf Stream. If that weakens from climate change, as some fear, we may end up getting colder, not warmer.

I’m glad that’s not just my imagination! LOL I’ve seen it at or below freezing here, but raining. For some reason, that really feels cold. The moisture gets inside of you…

Here in Northern Virginia it’s been very hot with oppressive levels of sun and humidity, which is typical for July and August here.

On the July 4th holiday I was helping with a pig roast (a traditional southern thing) and it was too hot for beer. That should say something right there. We were under the shade of a tarp and heard a loud bang, and it turns out that a butane lighter had burst under the sun. Not too surprising, but it was a first for me.

Fortunately we’re getting some much needed rain this weekend.

In SoCal too. After many glorious years living the SF Bay Area, it is very difficult to adjust to life down here–for many reasons (was born and raised here BTW). However, I seem less sensitive to the heat as the years go by; maybe I’m just getting used to it. In 2013-2018 or so, it was absolutely brutal with the ridiculously resilient ridge resulting in seemingly ten months of summer in those years. AT least we have enjoyed above-average rainfall in the last two seasons (MUCH needed!!!). Still, currently, in contrast to much of the rest of the country (and the world as a whole), we are not doing too badly so far this year.

much needed indeed, but that means the fires are going to be crazy this year or next.

Currently, about 15 ˚C (59 ˚F). Drives my wife crazy. I actually prefer this to 38˚C (100˚F).

Lots of rainfall in Toronto this year, which has resulted in overgrowth. I gave up on manicuring and weeding the garden and yards. Allergies not as bad as expected.

Just curious – What your typical annual rainfall? The data I found near me for a twenty year period (2000 to 2020) shows about 54 inches (~130cm) on average annually for us. However it’s not unusual to be around 60 to 70 inches (160-180cm).

Oh absolutely! Maybe if I was a beach bum I’d feel different but being flabby, pasty and generally unpleasant to look upon, the absence of beach weather isn’t a factor for me… LOL

So, today is not just super hot and dry, there is an “air quality alert”, too.

Predicted high of 97F and “Under Code Orange conditions, ground level ozone concentrations are
expected to reach levels that are unhealthy for sensitive groups. Children and people with asthma are individuals most at risk under these expected conditions.”

Hi
Pish poor here in Donegal. Back in me wooly jumper…

For me, it is not the temperature but the sunshine. I am happy at 5 ˚C if the sun is out, but I dislike overcast weather even if it is mild, and especially if it is raining.

So to extrapolate far too much on far too little data  maybe ~100cm annually, give or take?

Yes, I agree. Although, going to work in rain every day is also disheartening.
We did get sunshine today, and had a nice walk in the evening.

We also get about that much, too.

My native Budapest gets less than 600 mm per year on average.
