I have been photographing Berkeley for nearly 20 years, first becoming familiar with it as a grad student at Davis who made periodic trips to do research there, then later as a postdoc. My wife and I never lived there, but close enough for regular trips to enjoy the restaurants, bookstores, record stores, art galleries, architecture, and the general vibe. We live in SoCal now (had to move here to get a much better job), but miss the Bay Area very much. We make it up there a few times a year for vacation, and some consulting work.
I find that this city never fails to enchant and inspire–with new and interesting discoveries to be found around every corner.
While street photography is not really my thing, I have been increasingly interested in it lately–especially in Berkeley, the Bay Area and Europe. Now that I finally bought a smarthphone with a decent camera a few years ago, I find it liberating to be able to use this for street photography–to blend in, without whipping out a huge dSLR and lens.
Anyway here are a few recent snapshots with phone. Certainly some post-processing would be helpful in some cases–but I also like just seeing what the in-camera processing does. I like some of the results here a great deal.
Any thoughts, impressions, suggestions appreciated!
EDIT: Originally had 10 I wanted to upload, maybe later…
EDIT: There seems to be a reduction in quality–not sure whether there is some resampling going on…
