no need. I appreciate all of the well thought out advice, from you and everyone else. I’m a chronic over-thinker, so I can appreciate your thoroughness.
Any upgrade over $200 will probably take me a while to justify. I would ideally like a body upgrade that works with all of my current lenses. not needing an adapter would be a bonus. I’ll keep an eye out for the 7d and 5d, with a strong preference to the 7d.
I can’t remember if it was someone I had met, or something I had read doing research, but I was told that extension tubes wouldn’t work on the T5, or there were none that would be correct for the cropped sensor. I had initially looked into extension tubes to get a bit more reach with my 250mm, but abandoned the idea when I found the good deal on the Tamron. Are there any extension tubes that anyone can recommend?
Extension tubes are merely spacers between the body and lens; there is no need to spend real money on them. They wont give you any more reach (making your 250mm a 500mm…that is a teleconverter), but instead they effect the minimum focal distance.
Just to clarify, extension tubes are different than teleconverters. Extension tubes are hollow, with no optics in them. They just move the lens farther away from the camera which makes it focus closer.
Think of the way your 50mm focuses, by moving the whole lens group out in one piece.
They normally have electrical contacts to let the camera still connect to the lens. As far as the camera knows, there’s nothing there but the lens. If someone else knows why they may fail on a T5, let me know.
Those are $60. Viltrox has a set on there for $35, but they might not mount your ef-s lenses.
They aren’t a substitue for a macro lens, but they let you focus on things you couldn’t before. Focusing is mostly done by moving the camera back and forth. Stop down to maybe f/8 or even more. Use them in bright direct sunlight, or even better a cheap manual flash with a home-made diffuser like I mentioned earlier.
They can be quite frustraiting, but also a lot of fun.
