I’m not sure if this belongs here, if not feel free to move/delete it.
I’m looking for a program to organize my photos, I’ve done some research and there is a few options, but I would like some feedback from someone who actually uses the software to get first hand the pro and cons, to see if it feets my workflow.
I’m a formed LR user, after some research I start using darktable, which is great, but my main OS is windows, so I use it on a VM. For editting that’s fine, but for viewing/searching I’m still using LR, and I would like to replace it, so my requirements are: running on windows/linux, have similar options than LR (that is:keeps directory stucture, add tags/rating, some filter criteria for searching, good image quality for preview in full size)
digiKam is good, but you will need to nag the developers for a new Windows build (as far as I know the developers don’t make windows builds themselves, but they know who does), as the current one is old. I don’t recommend any digiKam version older than 4.14.0 - too buggy. digiKam 4.14.0 or 5 are good.
Thanks @Morgan_Hardwood , I have installed it on linux and it is good. But it seems to share the same problem as darktable, poor windows support. I will probably end building it myself, and in that case I think is better to work on a darktable windows build. I’ll use it a bit to see if it works for me and then decide.
Even though I am resurrecting an old thread I feel like this is relevant information:
There has been a lot of work invested lately in a build for windows. User report that it is working well. However all devs are currently working hard on digikam 5 and nobody is mainly focused on their website, so there is no information there. Everything happens on the maling lists (digikam-devel@kde.org and digikam-users@kde.org). I would propose asking there for the most recent windows build. The latest I am aware of (I do not use windows) is https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7yq-xFihT0_SzhxVzF1RDhPbFE/view .
Digikam 5 is planned to be release in the beginning of July, then there will probably also be an update on the website and an “official way” to get a windows release.
