Images not loading into darkroom

Hi, I am a total newbie to Darktable and new to Linux.

I am running Unbuntu 20.1 on a MacOS and have installed Darktable. I can load my images raf files (Fuji XT4), and can see them in Lighttable. However when I go to edit them in Darktable it says “Loading Image (and gives the image number)” but nothing actually loads.

I have checked and my camera appears to be supported by Darktable.

Can someone please help with exactly what I need to do to load images so I can edit them and bare in mind I am new to linux. Thank you.

Hi @JayKay Welcome! What version of darktable are you using?

Also note that the new lossy compressed mode is, as of dt 3.8, not yet supported for recent Fujifilm cameras, only lossless and uncompressed.

Hi. I am running 3.0.1.

I shoot RAW (and tried both lossless and uncompressed) but are you saying that even though I do that the latest version still will not work on Fuji files? Would an older version still work? Say 3.6 if I don’t have the latest one running (so it may seem)?

Thanks.

3.6 should work w/ uncompressed & lossless. It looks like even 3.2.1 might do it for the X-T4.

So I uninstalled the version I had. Downloaded from the link below the version that says 3.6 (the one on the right side of the screen). Reinstalled and it is still saying it is version 3.0.1.

https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=graphics:darktable&package=darktable

Anyone know where I can get the latest version that installs the correct one.

(Also looked for updates with no success either).

You need to do sudo dpkg -i darktable.3.6.deb

I did as suggested and it came up with this.

dpkg: error: cannot access archive ‘darktable.3.6.deb’: No such file or directory

‘darktable.3.6.deb should be the of the .deb package you downloaded.

It is however still won’t install…can’t understand why not! Will uninstall and retry again.

Paste the output from that command please.

did that, no such file or directory

do I need to change the file path name?

dpkg: error: cannot access archive ‘darktable.3.6.deb’: No such file or directory

Sorry if this sounds too basic, but are you in the same folder as the deb file you downloaded?
EDIT: issue the command ls *.deb to list all files in the current folder that have the deb extension

I think I have it working. Installing as I type. Needed to use sudo command and remove the original incorrect download version of darktable so it installed the later version. I will report back results soon…fingers crossed.

so it installed the 3.0 again…I did an update and this was the response.

I’ve been helping @JayKay in private on this issue but still couldn’t solve it, so it’s time to go public again.

What we’ve done?

  1. Added the OBS repo, so now darktable updates will be managed by Ubuntu
  2. Removed any older darktable versions
  3. Installed 3.8.0 from OBS
  4. Deleted .config and restarted darktable.

@JayKay’s still getting this error:

@jaykay sorry if I took you time and couldn’t solved it in the end. Anyway, stick with us.

Hi we have found the problem. Darktable will process Uncompressed and lossless compressed files only. Do NOT use compressed.
