Still down here, but I was able to get a pdf from the link @Wayne_Sutton posted.
Still down in Germany…
I believe rawpedia.rawtherapee.com is still down, but I tried to search rawpedia in search engine earlier today and the one of the result is rawpedia.pixls.us, it is accessable and while there don’t seem to be any official announcement about any website transfer, this looks legit and functions fine to me.
This link works for me:
https://rawpedia.rawtherapee.com/ is still unreachable for me, going on six weeks later.
https://rawtherapee.com does work, but the link to the documentation on that page points to the broken rawpedia.rawtherapee.com address, as does the help
icon in RawTherapee itself.
What is the source of the content at the RawPedia page at pixls.us? Is this current, or is it a snapshot of a previous version of the official docs? If it is current, perhaps the link at rawtherapee.com could be pointed here instead.
At this point, an announcement at rawtherapee.com explaining the situation would also be very helpful. New users aren’t likely to know to come looking through the forums here to find the missing documentation.
It is not current.
That was my conclusion when I realized the section on selective editing included screenshots with different options than what I see in my local version of RT 5.11.
We might be able to slurp a lot of it out of the way back machine.
I have no information on what is happening, except for the exchanges on the attached issue.
Issue 7244
I am the last one to have made an update on November 10 (on the “copy” of Pixls.us, by tinkering and with impressive waiting times, therefore not usable - it was just the title of the documentation for GHS : Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch), but the one on the real site dates from September 24.
Documentation updates are pending. Of course it was planned to do something else, but it is not going to happen “by itself”… So what to do in the meantime?
Of course, within the limits of my abilities (I am not at all a specialist in servers and websites), I am ready to contribute if necessary.
Jacques
Still down.
Where can I get a newer documentation of Rawtherapee? The one from Wayback is from 2020.
Until the last day or so the best option was https://rawpedia.pixls.us/Main_Page
However, that’s currently down; hopefully it will be back soon.
Thanks Tyler.
Since the site is offline for at least 2 months has onybody an offline copy?
Not aware of any copies, sorry.
Found a PDF for a translation in German:
RawTherapee Manual DE, v.5.11
An old english translation v.4.0.10:
RawTherapeeManual, v. 4.0.10
in case one needs some (at leas old) doc urgently.
Here’s an October 2020 copy of RawPedia. RawPedia.pdf - pCloud
If you want to see whether a page has been updated since October 2020, you can navigate to most pages on the following WayBack Machine snapshot and check the last-edited date at the bottom of the page. RawPedia
You can also find the more recent Selective Editing section in the same snapshot: https://web.archive.org/web/20240804230931/https://rawpedia.rawtherapee.com/Local_Adjustments
The snapshots are from July this year so they may not be completely up to date and you will find that quite a few images are missing.
I looked into this, because I think having the documentation site down for months is a pretty big issue. It turns out that the wiki is hosted on stablehost.com, and they recently changed the server on which the wiki is hosted (rawtherapee.com DNS points to pcluster19.stablehost.com, their DNS at ns1.stablehost.com points to scluster17.stablehost.com).
Putting this new server’s IP into /etc/hosts
has RawPedia loading just fine, so short-term the solution is just a matter of changing the DNS record.
However, I think that since this has been unsolved for months, further changes are warranted. I’m just an occasional user, but I think there should be backups of the docs site, and it should be administered by someone reachable, so that these kinds of issues can be solved promptly. Looking at the wiki as an outsider, I have no idea who’s paying for the hosting and who’s responsible for it not disappearing tomorrow.
I’m currently making a dump of the wiki, just in case. I’ll put a link here once it’s finished. Here’s a link.
EDIT: It turns out that this was already discovered elsewhere.
What ideas do you have?
Nothing that special. I think someone should come forward and become “the RawPedia admin” (or multiple admins for redundancy). They’d have their contact details on the wiki, so that if anything happens again, people can contact someone who has the access and knowledge necessary to fix it.
I also think the wiki should be backed up, periodic public dumps seem like a good idea. If it wasn’t just running on a different server right now, but actually dead, the content would have to be painfully recreated instead of just importing a backup.
That is what we’re working towards, but moving things around and having those people in place is easier said than done.
Please also note that it is easy as a casual observer to say “wow you guys should do better” and “someone should step up and do that” – but we have lives outside of this volunteer work as well
We’ve been looking at moving to a git based workflow, so that the source can be on github. That makes redundant copies fairly painless and also makes hosting it super simple.
