italian language darktable 5.0

Hello everyone. I’m francy and I have installed darktable 5.0.1-3 on endeavourOS. In the menu “interface language” of “darktable preferences” doen’t appera italian. I have read some article about and I haveunderstand that language appear if there is a .po file and the conversion to a .mo file. I search in my pc and I have found in \usr\share\locale\it the file cups_it.po with translation from english to italian and in \usr\locale\it_it\LC_MESSAGES a file named yay.mo. The same type of files and folders are present for other languages.
Someone can kindly tell me what is wrong and how can I select italian language from graphic interface of darktable?
Thank you.

There is no Italian right now because the localization of Italian is not complete. The localizations in darktable are community driven, so someone needs to step up and do the work so other people can have nice things.

What exactly someone should do for localization? I think I can try to give my help with translation (I have to read how to do that for darktable) but I don’t know if is that or something else that is not complete.

I suggest you try and contact the previous translators first: History for po/it.po - darktable-org/darktable · GitHub (click on each commit and look at “Last-Translator” for their email address).

It looks like there is somebody active for the next 5.2 release, it is too late for 5.0.x.

For the record I have merged today a 100% complete Italian translation.

It wasn’t fully translated for 5.0 so it was removed just before the release.

That is why you don’t have a darktable.mo in your /usr/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES.
