Landscape astrophotography with vintage glass

Someone on a Vintage Lenses group on Facebook said you’re better off not even trying any serious astro-photography with vintage lenses.

Serious or not, I love how this came out.

It’s composite of a stack of 50 light frames, 20 dark frames for the sky and 5 frames for the foregound.

Taken with a Sony a7R and the wonderfully sharp, if severely underrated Sigma Super Wide II, 2.8/24.

Stacked with Sequator (under WINE). Post-processed and composited with GIMP on Manjaro Linux

Bortle 2 sky.

I think you’ve done really well, in fact, better than some other milky way shots I’ve seen made with the “right” glass. Skill > gear  The actual milky way part is nice, quite noiseless.

Personally I’d prefer some cooler colors in there, and a few more exposures to blend in your middle ground to bring some detail.

But a great job overall!
