In past, RT always cropped 4pix at each border from raw files to give best possible demosaic result for the entire frame.
With latest code, you can set the border (in a range fom 0 to 16) yourself. That’s especially important to keep the 1920x1080 resolution of some raw files.
For compatibility with stated pixel sizes from manufacturers, it might be useful to allow users to define a separate margin on all four sides, as a default for each camera they use.
For example, the Nikon D800 Raw->JPG standard crop is: left 8, top 6, right 10, bottom 6. (In ImageMagick terms: “-crop 7360x4912+8+6”.)
Personally, I always crop as I want an image to be cropped. But some folk might want to follow the standard established by the manufacturer.
