Lens correction: default focus distance at 1 cm?

Is there a way to set the default distance in that module when the lens doesn’t put the focus distance in the metadata (typically manual-focus lenses)?

The default value is 1 cm, which doesn’t seem likely to be useful very often, if ever. If I had to choose a default value, I’d rather put infinity (1000).

Also, am I the only one thinking the lensfun-based vignetting correction should have a strength modifier? Some of the lenses have a very aggressive vignetting profile in the database, and it almost looks over-corrected. Using the manual method and guessing the values isn’t very convenient (I had to do that a few times with the Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8, for example).

I saw several issues in the GitHub repository proposing just that, but they were automatically closed after a period of inactivity. So it seems not many are interested into that feature.

Save a preset. It’ll save all the values.

That’s what I did in the past, but I’ll have to apply it every time?

Set it to autoapply when you need it.

Thanks, I’ll try that.

I like this suggestion because sometimes vignetting can be appealing so if I could actually tweak this automatic correction to my own preference that would be nice. Alternatively if the auto correction moved the manual sliders so I could tweak it that would also work well for me. I know in the rotate and perspective module when it does a line analysis and automatic corrections the sliders move and I can then tweak the correction if I desire.

I’ve created a new issue for it in the Darktable GitHub. Feel free to add your support.

Sadly looking at the replies it doesn’t seem so easy to fix from the DT coding.
