Libre Graphics Vienna @ the Metalab

look at the date in your post.

I thought it’ clear that it’s 18:30 CET.

well the way you have written it, it could also be read as 1830-11-28. expecting people to read a 4 digit number without a colon as time is a bit weird. plus in your other posts you had the timezone mentioned. in this one you hadnt. last but not least … have time information for international meetings always in UTC. makes it easier for people to calculate to their own timezone.

Well I assume that the meeting is only interesting for people who are close to Vienna or in Vienna which also implies that they are in the same timezone. it’s not really an international meeting, more like regional.

I just know that pixls is the best way to reach some people who are in this region.

Edit: So far there are only some pixls members in or close to Vienna on my list - but I am sure that there are at least 10 of them in this forum. I am hoping that they read it.
I did not know about @Vente so far and he read this.

Yes I know it’s time (I have seen other posts), but I thought I would make a joke :sweat_smile:

In this context that would definitely not be helpful. Me for exampe I have no idea if right now I have to add 1 or 2 hours to UTC, I think it’s 1 and in summer 2. But I’m not sure and I have to look it up.

So are you coming or not? Are you close to the border?

We would be very happy to have someone from Slovakia.

Btw, I love this TV show: Burlive vino.

Unfortunately not, at least not yet. Since I’m dependent on public transport, roaming Vienna (which is huge compared to Bratislava) in the dark and all on my own is currently not realistic for me.

look up at your other posts :slight_smile: you used UTC for most of them.

gives you your own offset :slight_smile:

I can go with you to the train station.

I could even visit you! Or we could make a meeting at some place in Bratislava.

BTW: discourse has a time syntax which you can see in action here:

Sunday, November 24, 2024 5:00 PM
Wednesday, November 24, 1830 5:00 PM
2230-11-24T17:00:00Z

[date=2024-11-24 time=17:00:00 format="LLLL" timezone="UTC"]
[date=1830-11-24 time=17:00:00 format="LLLL" timezone="UTC"]
[date=2230-11-24 time=17:00:00 timezone="UTC"]

which you can access via the calendar icon right next to the smiley in the toolbar, that timestamp thingie should honor the timezone you specified in profile preferences

I guess that would make it most useful for yourself and others. HTH

edit: if you click on the timestamp it gives you timezones as examples :slight_smile:

thanks for the info, that’s really handy…

btw: check the time picker from the toolbar what the LLLL means :slight_smile: you can get it via the ā€œadvancedā€ button.

I would be interested to know (not only from people from around Vienna):

  • would you still go to user group meetings?
  • What would be a reason for you to go to such a meeting? For example: invited talks, meeting developers, food, …
  • What would be reasons for you to not go to such a meeting?

I was thinking about these questions a lot recently and think that user groups do not meet the zeitgeist and people tend to use online resources (like this forum) to ask for help rather than going to a user group meeting.

Just a joke: I think one would have to pay people to go to such meetings.

Most people are too addicted to their smartphones… they have no time for real meetings…

They have their families, they get their partner with online dating, and the only real friend is the smartphone which contains the non real friends… even the not so close family members are mostly in the phone… work is also mostly remote… not seeing colleagues or bosses for years… or ever…

Life is somehow digitally perverted.

Edit: I think this has to do with the covid lockdowns, I believe normal life will come back eventually but it’ll take a long time.

We do have a photo club here (there are more, of course, I’m writing about the one I’m a member of), which meets biweekly. Its membership is declining, though. There are some newcomers, but there are in general more leaving (moving away, giving up because of old age / illness) than joining.

These are reasons I can totally understand. I was member of another user group here, which slowly dissolved because people moved away, lost interest in the topic or simply had jobs that took most of their time. I’m no exception for the latter…
Does it also imply that younger generations do not have an interest in such meetings and user groups are something for people of 30+years?
I’m not sure if ā€œsmartphone addictionā€ is really the root cause… My feeling is, that there is just so much information in the internet, such as high quality video tutorials, that you do not need to go to a user group to learn a software.
