Looking for this rough test regarding the effect of scratches on the front lens [solved]

Hi all,

Does anyone remember this quite rude test concerning the impact of scratches and destruction on the front lens with respect to the quality of photos taken with the gear?

I googled for quite some time and can just find that one

but not the one with that lovely brutal humor  I just remember that it was a kind of spin-off in a discussion about sense or non-sense of using an UV filter as a front-lens protection…

Thanks in advance for pointing me somewgere and have a good time

Possibly this one?

That one is also very nice, thanks for the link :sunglasses: but it’s not the one I’m looking for.

I remember that it was a kind of blog post, perhaps by a guy from the UK - not sure about that. He started with a small scratch and ended up with a badly battered front element. With every step of destruction he did a shot to show the impact. It was quite impressive

There was this posting on the topic by Kurt Munger: http://kurtmunger.com/dirty_lens_articleid35.html ,
but currently that link doesn’t work for me anymore.

Edit: One interesting result of his tests was, by the way, that fully removing a damaged front element actually turned that lens into a macro lens.

Yes exactly that one  Thanks so much :pray::pray: unfortunately it’s no longer online, but I found it being accessible in the archive
