Looking to import and merge .cr3 from Canon-R

Is there a way I could import and merge .cr3 files from Canon-R?
I am looking to merge hundreds of thousands of bracketed exposures for a stop motion project.
I am looking for a command line option and this may very well be it. Is it a matter of updating to more recent version of libraw, or much more involved?

I don’t think HDR merge supports cr3 yet. Perhaps if you can build it yourself and include the master branch of libraw.

or you can use dnglab to make a dng out of the cr3, and merge those.
