I’m just wondering what is the easiest way to profile a camera that is not supported by darktable as of now. Specifically the Leica DLux-8 compact.
If there is full documentation on this?

As I understand it, that camera is a re-badged Panasonic. So is there a profile available for the Panasonic?
I don’t use dt. Are we talking about digital camera profiles, Adobe type .dcp?
I think the DLUX-7 was a re-badged Panasonic. The DLUX-8 has a different sensor.
I’m not clear on how darktable uses or implements camera profiles.
DPR says: The D-Lux8 is a relatively subtle update of the 2018 D-Lux 7, with much of the underlying hardware unchanged. The body has been redesigned and there are some changes to the controls and interface but the sensor and lens are the same as those used in the D-Lux7 and the Panasonic LX100 II.
FWIW
You’re wanting to make an input profile, I assume. You can generate an ICC profile.
@cedric Yes, apparently so. Would darktable use the DLUX-7 camera profile automatically when opening the raw in the darkroom?
The Leica D-Lux 8 now outputs a DNG which carries within an input matrix set by the manufacturer, and dt simply uses that, no special support is necessary (dt 5.0 just added make/model string prettification).
@kmilos Thank you!!
Earlier I said: I don’t use dt.
So can’t help with that, sorry.
I looked in RT 5.8 for the Panasonic DMC-LX100, both .dcp and .icc, no profiles listed for that camera and none for the Leica either. Otherwise, I could have sent you one to try in dt.
Well, you can always try to make a custom preset using the color checker if you want to further improve on the OOTB look…
Just for info, what type(s) of input profile does dt use as default? (I did read your comment about DNG).
The ColorMatrix
tag values that belong w/ the CallibrationIlluminant
that is D65, or closest to it.
thx. Definitely different to RT which has folders full of .dcp and .icc files for their supported camera models
DT just doesn’t support DCP files…ICC only…
Good to hear … down with Adobe! …
Long ago, I was shooting wristwatches under CFL lighting (yes, not the finest) for sale on ebay. With a Sigma SD9, red markers were coming out brown in PS Elements 6. So I added ACR maybe v. 5.4 and looked under the ‘Cam’ tab for the DCP … nope - it said “Embedded” IIRC. So I bought a color-checker card, downloaded the Adobe DCP stuff. After finally producing a .dcp, I finally added it into folder where all the others were and fired up ACR. It ignored my brave new addition, still said “Embedded” and still gave me brown reds. At which point, my computer became Adobe-free and remains so to this day.
Pardon the diatribe …
