MAM - Sometimes, I find stuff on old drives (2012 K-5 + Sigma 8-16mm)

Milwauke Art Museum

While re-ordering my backup drives and setting up a new NAS I came across these old shots from way back when. Shot on my K-5 (the first, legacy model) with the fantastic Sigma 8-16mm lens which I still use today on my KP.

I decide to take a look what a difference new(er) software and more than 13 years of added post-editing experience would do. Some of the old images are still on my web albums in their original versions in this album.

Back then I worked with UFRaw for raw conversions, today I use Darktable which allows me way much more control over the finished image. I still use Digikam and Gimp, as I did back then but today’s versions of those software packages have also undergone drastic changes and gigantic updates/upgrades. Added to my arsenal these days is NeatImage (Linux native version) which takes care of noise reduction and sharpening just before thumbnailing the final image.

Great captures! You’ve shown us a very fine sense of blue hour and balance between artificial and ambient light. Any plans of going there again?

No, not in the foreseeable future.

Haven’t seen this place before. Thanks for sharing - and great pictures, especially the first one.
Incidentally, I also have a Linux version of Neat Image around, but the noise reduction tools in dt work quite well (and e.g. the contrast equalizer also utilizes wavelets), so I find myself using NI less and less these days.
