I saw him about a month ago, exhibited at his bookfair, seemed ok, zooming around with his walker, he had been ill for a long time though.

We lived in West Yorkshire in the late 70s, early 80s. I was given a signed copy of his The Non-Conformists as a Christmas present by someone who lived Hebden Bridge.

It really does give me a feel of the place at the time.

Would that be this one, @commutergraphics? Any good? I’m hoping to pop along to this in 2026.

I’d like to visit the Martin Parr Foundation in general. Any one else been?

yes, BOP is a good festival, I’m not sure if it’s worth a long journey but if you’re reasonably close probably worth coming, they had a couple of rooms of publishers and then a programme of talks, I’m not sure what will happen with talks going forward, Martin hosted all talks given at the foundation, I guess someone else will need to do introductions etc, MPF has a changing programme of exhibitions along with regular talks and other events, it’s a single exhibition normally, the foundation has the bottom floor of a building in bristol and also houses Martins studio and archive, they apparently have bought another building nearby to use as a study centre but I don’t think that is ready yet, they have hundreds of thousands of prints by Martin and other british and irish photographers, I think you can go and view prints etc by appointment, then they also have a large library of photobooks which members can go and use a few days per month

I went to BOP and the foundation this year (I live in Bristol so it would have been rude not to go  ). I found the photobook fair really good and bought a few books – mostly small stalls run by the photographers that made the books. The gallery was all decked out with chairs for talks so I couldn’t really see any of the photos, but it seemed probably a bit too sparse for it to be worth a visit on its own.

Thanks, both.

I’m a big fan of Martin’s work, and I’ll be in Bristol at least twice next year - including when the BOP festival is on, so will definately be swinging by!

Just finished watching the I Am Martin Parr documentary, too.

I was a proud owner of “Boring Postcards” by Martin Parr, but it somehow got lost when I moved house. I bought that book from a charity shop, not knowing anything about him, so his photographs did exactly what they was supposed to do in eliciting my interest.
