Meet Todd ( * )

I’d like to introduce you all to Todd (*).

Todd, everyone. Everyone, Todd.

Todd’s a tool.

Not because he’s an overly harsh critic but because he asks questions. Sleekit questions. The kind that stop you in your tracks.

A conversation would go like this

Todd - So you want to photograph people?

Me - Yeah

T - Why? For what purpose?

M - Well its obvious ain’t it? I mean people, photographs. Been done since the invention of the camera. Continuing a long tradition.

T - But why you?

M - ‘Cos I want to

T – Thats compelling

M - OK so I want to practice portraiture

T - Yeah, thats gonna have them queuing up and down the street

M - umm…

T - Give me one valid reason a person would let you take their photograph

M -

Thing is, I don’t have a valid reason for taking someones photograph. I dont even have a good reason.

The best I can offer is this

See, I could have listened to Todd and sat safely at home binge watching Bridgerton.

Then I wouldnt have met a veteran of 30 years service as a US Army Paratrooper, in Europe for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Now retired, he still jumps out of airplanes.

So yeah, Todds a tool. Ignore Todd (*)

(*) any resemblance to an actual Todd living or dead, past, present or future is purely coincidental and entirely unintentional.

The line that bothers me is:

What the hell is wrong with people, these days?

I know, right? People are idiots, especially that big lanky ganch just out of frame dead centre between left and right…

Cool dude. Had I just taken the photo from afar I’d just have a picture of a guy with a beard and gotten none of the story.
