Hello, I am unable to view the video filmic rgb: remap any dynamic range in darktable 3 that is mentioned in the filmic rgb documentation. The video has been set to private on YouTube. Does anyone have that video?
Looks like that video was set to private by the developer of the module, Aurélien Pierre. He has his own website, perhaps the video is available there?
EDIT: opened an issue in the dtdocs tracker
I think he nuked all his DT related stuff which is a shame because there’s a lot of context there.
Quite possible. Iirc, the separation wasn’t the most friendly, and I guess he prefers more traction for Ansel…
But the Ansel documentation for filmic rgb (Ansel | filmic rgb) links to that same video …
The ansel docs are a fork of the darktable docs. if you click the link in the ansel docs, its still private.
AP’s website is down too as (I think) a gesture of solidarity with some political movement - maybe he pulled everything everywhere?
Huh? For me the page linked to comes up normally. The main page also works… Even his Youtube channel was active (as of yesterday), though with very little content.
Edit: his main site (aurelienpierre.com) is indeed closed (not “down”) as a protest against French government…
Well, not going to comment on the content of that page. But, living in France, I haven’t noticed much change since Sep. 10th, 2025…
Aurelien est parti faire autre chose et a tout laissé en plan
That’s what I thought too. It seems that the fork is now mostly worked by another guy. To me this effort is doomed anyway when you see what as been done to the code, it is actually fully broken! Not counting the fact that there is lot feature that are implemented in Darktable since the fork like Sigmoid, AgX, Color Equalizer, Primaries, Composite, Enlarge Canvas, dynamic snapshots regarding zoom, side-by-side snapshot view, Capture Sharpen, External Raster File to name only the major new features not counting the huge amount of fixes and UI adjustments.
Just yesterday, out of boredom, I downloaded Ansel for Windows and it didn’t even start properly… It was doing system performance evaluation at startup, but never was able to finish - every time the app quitted without a warning and I never saw the lighttable.
Actually just to confirm I downloaded it and it works fine for me…Windows 11 install…
Other than poking around I never use it…
Maybe a matter of hardware.
I’m on Win11 25H2 Home with AMD Ryzen 7800X3D & RX 9070 XT.
Ansel seemed to crash when it had reached GPU tests.
Is this a version for current master?
I think it was the nightly but it might have been similar to the version that is the one downloaded as current… I could go back and look…
bottom of the list…tonights now supercedes the one I downloaded as there were some commits added today…
Whatever the skills, a one-person fork rarely works out. I’m too new to know the history, it seems like a sad chapter, but while I knew of Ansel, I never tried it for the simple reason that such a project needs a real community.
Me too, just to confirm, it works well for me on both Windows 11 and Linux. It’s fast.
This is true.
