My play in GIMP. Cropped to a panoramic aspect to show that it is in the middle of nowhere! Big increases of mid range contrast and saturation to make the grey gate stand out against the background.

Interesting interpretation. You focus the viewers attention on the path rather than the vast empty space or the gate. Nice.
