Monitor calibration in linux

I’m trying to calibrate my laptop monitor using displaycal and a spyder 5 pro on a computer running Ubuntu running gnome. When I start the calibration for adjusting whitepoint/white level and am supposed to adjust my monitors red, green, blue and brightness levels I’m not finding any options in my system settings to change the color levels. Does anyone know how i can adjust the color levels or if there is any special software I need to do this or if I would need to switch to a different desktop environment or distro to be able to do this.

You are probably using DisplayCAL, right? You can use your monitor’s controls to set RGB-levels, brightness and contrast.

For example I have to choose standard mode in my Asus PB238 to be able to choose custom white balance (User Mode) in order to set reds, greens and blues. Set them all first roughly and then fine tune.

Yeah I’m using DisplayCal. Unfortunately my laptop doesn’t have any physical buttons for adjusting the display and when I go into settings this is all that I see - settings color | guine | Flickr with some options for changing to different profiles but nothing to do a custom adjustment of the colors. Are there any other ways to adjust the colors through the os?

DisplayCal is talking about hardware controls. If you don’t have them just move on.

Start by reading the documentation.

Thanks for the info, I just came into the spyder quickly so was trying to figure out how to use it on the fly.

Hi Guine
I had similar issues trying to do the same thing on my acer laptop using Fedora.
I could adjust my RGB balances in Windows on the laptop using the Nvidia driver software…there were no such controls in Fedora though :frowning:

I accepted the screen is subpar at best and I should not use the laptop for colour critical work anyway.
Good luck
