It does seem possible though to still buy Kodak film
There seem to be lots of different new analogue film companies
I suspect on the basis that I work for a company that did this a long time ago; who marketed an Agfa film under a different name, that they may all be made by a more limited number of manufacturers than the impression given
notice a lot of film technology survives because art college students still have to use it and it does tend to be fuji
now digital is technically better and cheaper, as everyone knows, I guess there might be good reasons for still doing this: maybe a minority of images work better with lower resolution we are getting into the realms of fine art with this
I got the impression here that some of Kodaks innovations have been used by the digital people which is of course one of the best compliments you get in the commercial world
I think people didn’t like the way overexposure in highlights was treated by digital compared to film but this looks fairly sorted now
The overall impression that digital is easier is soon lost by people who go into it, shame about DPreview in this regard
Sure you can still buy Kodak film. see also the thread about the smarter everyday factory tour.
but that doesnt change the fact that kodak is just a shadow of itself.
Did they not also diversify their lens range? A UHD, parfocal long zoom Fujinon that you’d see at a sports stadium will be $100k+, easily.
I guess there is the possibility of confusing fujifilm with fuji film if you don’t watch the video, another grammatical point, maybe pedantic but clarity now
When I was a kid I won a photo competition and was shown round a Kodak lab, they said: ‘would you like to work in a photo lab when you grow up’ , I said ‘no’ , 10 years later, I was working in a photo lab
wish I’d stuck with biology sometimes , vane regrets
well fujifilm … is the same company that gave us the X/GFX cameras and also the analogue film
Indeed. Kodak engineer Bryce Bayer’s mosaic scheme is used in variations by almost every digital camera out there.
