So Hank and I have been working on the new website for quite some time now, and it is complete, much thanks to Hank’s work in turning the mockups into a Jekyll site. There is a preview available at https://wilkinson.graphics/NatronGitHub.github.io.
The only thing left is to transfer the repository to the Natron organization GitHub, but I don’t have the permissions to do that, @devernay I’m not sure who other than you does. Since this has been in hiatus for nearly 2 years by this point, I wonder if we could get it done?
+1 to this. Song and Hank have done a great job with the website. There already exists a PR (#96:Move the new website (already done) into Natron's org?) but its been stagnant for a long time due to Song and Hank not having permissions.
I asked Song to make a new thread here to 1. get Frederic’s attention (Rodlie is aware of the project via Discord and has been helping), and 2. Get feedback on and fix any lingering last-minute issues with the new website before the final push.
Thanks for the kick in the pants to get this moving @Songtech-0912 haha. Happy to transfer this to the Natron org whenever I am asked to do so! I might ask that I still retain repo management access if you’d allow me the ability to accept PRs? Up to the core maintainers though, also happy to hand it off fully if that’s what people want.
I’ve been checking through the new website and have found a bunch of issues/errors and some things that can be done better. I’ve been discussing them with Song on Discord. Will have everything fixed & improved soon. Will update once everything’s in shape. @rodlie if you want to see our discussion on the Natron Discord server, it is in the #design-development channel. I’ve been posting the issues as I’m finding them.
Regarding the numbers and text issues, Song has identified it as a CSS issue and will be fixing it soon. There are other minor ones that will also be fixed without much difficulty. The ones that will take some time and needs serious re-doing is the text content. In some places there is information that is unneeded and some text is not worded properly. Will be discussing that with Song and @Shrinks99 once the other visual issues are sorted.
No worries, take your time and take care of your health first.
This work is also probably going to take a while. The smaller issues like the numbers and text size, etc will probably get fixed very soon but the text content rewriting and any other more-than-minor issues we might encounter will take a bit of discussion and work so we’re still a while away from getting the thing ready for publishing.
The stylesheets & fonts or something else? Might be best to set up NPM for those…
Also looks like the CI is broken, many of these have already been addressed but haven’t been pushed to the preview site yet
Completely agreed. The content that’s up there is pretty much locked in for that MVP. There’s a whole section of the site for showcasing individual features that is currently disabled and needs some nice images that can be enabled later.
As a result of Song and Hank’s hard work, the CI has been fixed and a new website preview with some fixes has been generated. There are a few more fixes to the text content and styling that should be done soon and then the MVP will be done and ready for publishing. I dont have a GitHub account anymore so I’ve been sending fixes/changes on Discord. Song and Hank will be pushing them to the website as soon as possible.
After that we can discuss about extra content. Things like better learning resources, a proper features page, etc are still WIP but are getting there. For now the basic website is almost ready.
