My Natron installation looks different

Hello

I’ve just installed Natron for first time. I’m taking a look on the documentation and there are some things different.

  • There is no TOOLS menu

At the end of installation, the console showed this error

$ ./Natron-2.3.15-Linux-64
Warning: /home/mike/Natron-2.3.15/bin/natron-mime.sh: 31: /home/mike/Natron-2.3.15/bin/natron-mime.sh: update-desktop-database: not found

Do I have to install an extra package to add the TOOLS menu and the user-desktop-database? I downloaded Natron-2.3.15-Linux-64.tgz and installed on Debian 10 with KDE.

Thanks

Hi,

Can you provide a screenshot? I’m not sure what you mean by the tools menu.

You can ignore this. Just means your system don’t have update-desktop-database, this will not affect Natron, just mime types.

The image in the documentation https://natron.readthedocs.io/en/rb-2.3/_images/interface_full_03.jpg shows a TOOLS menu after the HELP menu, but mine does not have it…

By now I’m just reviewing the program elements… Did I do something wrong or need to install something else?

Thanks

The screenshot in the docs is from a user, it does not represent the default look in Natron.

Your screenshot looks fine, nothing wrong there.

But how can I add the TOOLS menu and functions? Or it is created manually by the user? I will get confused if I follow the documentation but does not coincide with my installation or setup 8(

I’m very new to Natron, never used it before…

TOOLS MENU

Can you link to the documentation that reference the tools menu?

https://natron.readthedocs.io/en/rb-2.3/guide/getstarted-environment-menus.html

Maybe is due the version… I have 2.3.15 and the documentation is for 2.3.16 only available via git

Thanks.

I’m unsure why it’s referenced in the docs, please ignore it. The menu and many other parts of Natron can be customized through Python scripting.
