General apporach: enable everything and max it out.
April 2024, around the time I started using darktable, with quite a few images postprocessed under my belt. Decent understanding of what is a scene referred workflow, why filmic exist. Pretty sure this was done with filmic, default (hard) contrast settings, respecting curve warnings. Looks like quite a bit of finer local contrast added, which was a mistake.
General approach: do everything technically correctly, improved yet still lacking self-restraint

AgX. Very lightweight edit, as in I certainly didn’t throw everything and then the kitchen sink at it. Foreground darkened using extreme black relative exposure (-1 EV), which resulted in heavy changes to pivot relative exposure and pivot target output, to get the curve under control. Was worth it, I prefer it to what AgX settles on when just using the picker tools. Extreme saturation, had to desaturate it quite a lot, still in AgX. Apart from that, I basicallly just compressed the DR a bit in the tone mapper.
General approach: I will tell you in 2 years once I have the hindsight.
