I thought they were gonna use the generative AI capabilities to upscale, improve noise quality, etc. The necklace demo is disappointing. Might as well use a phone by that point instead of a M43 sensor
Note that, technically, there is no new product out there yet. One can sign up for one with a deposit, in the usual Kickstarter fashion, but given that this looks like a reboot of the Alice camera, which was delayed for approx 2 years, I would be cautious.
For those interested, here are Emily’s thoughts on the predecessor:
That said, if the specs are reasonable, I would consider it, for use without the AI.
If all you’re going to do is use AI, why even make the photo in the first place? Just start with AI. No need for camera.
“Producing engaging, high-quality content is a necessity for solo creators and small businesses — but they are already stretched thin and juggling multiple business demands. Content creation tools are fragmented, and users producing social media content for the first time struggle with steep learning curves for both mirrorless camera operation and editing software,” Kumar said last month.
This tells you most of what you need to know — “add a chatbot and a lens to make it easier to generate slop”. I agree with Mica, if you don’t want to put in the work, why even bother with this half step.
Maybe our knowledgeable bosses could ADD a filter that blocks images containing Generative AI.
And changing wine into water, please … I am obviously too old for this, as Danny would say.
Maybe they can add OpenAI’s move into pornography with a firmware update… the possibilities are endless.
While I don’t care about the AI part, it is heartening to see that a small third party can create a viable micro 4/3 camera that sells for less than 1000 EUR, even if the EVF/screen/controls are relegated to the smartphone.
The Esquisse Camera is much more to my taste, I hope they pull it off.
