New Categories and Old

So based on an earlier discussion around categories:

I’ve made a couple of changes and new additions…

New Category: Software

I’ve decided to create a new category, Software, where folks can talk about software in general (not necessarily tied to a particular workflow or process). The idea is to give a voice to software discussions in general. There’s also a sub-category there for G’MIC related posts and announcements.

I’ll add more under this category as needed. If there’s a lot of darktable discussion, I’ll make a specific darktable sub to help categorize things a bit more.

Moved Help!

I’ve also moved the old Help! category to be a sub of Meta, as the posts there were mostly involved with help on the site in some way.

Still Thinking

I’m still considering how I want to create a category for Showcase and possibly some sort of Critique and Criticism category for people to solicit help against particular images. Expect these soon after I ruminate on how best to position them inside the structure of the forums now.

All of the categories on the site are visible from the Categories page.

So here’s what the current categorization looks like for the site:

  • PIXLS.US
  • Processing
  • Capturing
  • Meta
  • Help!
  • Software
  • G’MIC

There’s a couple of others, but they’re mostly hidden (Staff and a Lounge for members whose trust level is 3+).

I’m thinking of adding the Showcase category to the highest level, like Processing and Capturing:

  • PIXLS.US
  • Processing
  • Capturing
  • Showcase
  • Meta
  • Help!
  • Software
  • G’MIC

Anyone have any good reason not to add it there?

Likewise, I’m considering adding a Critique category to the same level:

  • PIXLS.US
  • Processing
  • Capturing
  • Showcase
  • Critique
  • Meta
  • Help!
  • Software
  • G’MIC

Unless anyone has a good reason not to add it to the same level?
