new version 1.5.4

Hi,
I don’t have any other versions installed and I had already deleted the entire Art directory on AppData before reinstalling it.
I haven’t master, only \cache, \profiles and options

can you try running from inside gdb? If you have rawtherapee installed, you might have gdb as well in there. If so, try running:

c:\program files\rawtherapee\gdb.exe "c:\program files\ART\1.5.4\ART.exe"

then type run at the prompt, and see if you get some error message… (see attached screenshot)

The test version does not work better.

I believe you are on Windows 10, right?

Try enabling Smartscreen log events:

wevtutil sl Microsoft-Windows-SmartScreen/Debug /e:true

Then try Art (either from GUI and the command line.

Then open Event Viewer and look for Smartscreen events:

EDIT: Better open a CMD window as administrator to issue the wevutil command above.

EDIT2: At least on my up-to-date Windows 10 computer, the first time I executed Art SmartScreen poped up a confirmation dialog, warning of potential risks.

Thanks, we are making some progress. Can you try with this new installer and see if that works? (uninstall the previous version first)

Hello @agriggio !
@F85 has exceeded the message quota allocated to new arrivals and is unable to contact you by private message.

He asks if there is another way to speak with you as he still cannot launch ART.

I just pushed him up one level

same effect with test version.
I took the opportunity to repeat the gdb test

so… the only warning I saw in the previous output has gone away, and now it seems ART is just getting killed for no reason. I still think there’s some kind of antimalware that is blocking it, though I don’t know what. Did you try following the steps suggested by @gadolf ?

I don’t know if I understood everything …
the link to the event log
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rDo4Di41sJluK97p9rFYtOzAwkBhit8h/view?usp=sharing

  • No malware, virus on my system
  • No resident program to screen them

Test performed with Nod32 anti-virus and Windows Defender firewall disabled.
Art does not launch.

Thank you for your help.

did you try other builds? E.g. this one:

https://keybase.pub/gaaned92/ART-W64NightlyBuilds/ART_1.5.4_W64_generic.7z

I unzipped this version in a place other than program files, i hope that’s not the reason for my problems …
well done
many thank’s to the crew

That’s good progress! But why are the translation strings not working? That’s weird…
The labels you see in your screenshot, like “GENERAL_ABOUT”, “ABOUT_TAB_SPLASH” etc. should not be there; you should see the actual translations instead. Can you try looking at the preferences and select a language manually? Like this:

The software is in French, the system language set by default.

Sorry, I’m in transit now and couldn’t answer on time.
Glad to see that you could evolve, though.
Happy editing!

Thank you very much for your support

@F85
I suppose that some subfolders are missing.
Inside the zip, there is a folder that has the same name as the zip.
for instance inside ART_1.5.4_W64_generic.7z, you have the folder ART_1.5.4_W64_generic. This folder contains all the required resources (files, subdirectory).
So you have to extract this folder where you want and you should not have labels like “GENERAL_ABOUT” but the french text “A propos”. after you can rename this folder if you want

Hi Gaaned,

sorry no folder ART_1.5.4_W64_generic.7z in the pack.
Yesterday i didn’t make any changes except not creating the \1.5.4 generic below \art directory when i uploaded the set to c:\program file\art.
I also noticed the presence of the pgm gdb.exe which only existed in rawtherapee but not in art1.5.4
Have a good day
Francois
