Next Live Meeting: Sun Feb 13 18:00 UTC

I can offer again to test my openmeetings server. I changed the turnserver configuration, so maybe there are less problems now.

I can still activate a Google Business subscription to Meet for a few bucks, and it comes with a built-in recording feature; the question is whether people are comfortable with it. I’ve sold my soul to the corporations, but others may be more picky about theirs. No Google account would be needed for the meeting, but the audio + video + metadata would still flow through their servers; if we record the meeting, the recording would also be stored there.

Previous meetings have been piped from Jitsi to YouTube, so this shouldn’t be very different regarding Google’s involvement…

@Thomas_Do Same result as the first time. My mobile Firefox seems to be more successful but alas my entry phone won’t be able to handle the meeting for very long.

@kofa I would not mind personally unless a mod or mainstay of this community strongly objects. If you are committed, I would say give it a go. If it doesn’t work for us, we can drop it next time.

I am still waiting for someone to take charge in the platform department, be it Jitsi or something better™. I would rather focus on being the host (content-wise :stuck_out_tongue:) than be fiddling with the tech.

OK, so if people are not against Google, we can give it a try.

I have not yet paid, so it’s limited to 10 people. If we want to host the meeting with Google, I’ll start the paid subscription.

I won’t be able to stay logged on indefinitely, and new joiners need my permission to connect. So how about setting up a test call?

I’ll post a link later as well, and we can have a quick test at 20:00 CET tonight; if needed, we may repeat it later as well.

That would be 2 PM EST. I will try to make it. Out doing errands before that.

PS @paperdigits Feel free to pin this thread anytime. Thanks!

I’m actually online if you want to try. It seems Chrome is better supported than e.g. Firefox (you cannot use background effects with FF). You can use the same login info as before:

The test meet has started!!! why are we only 2 people??!!

Google Meet has a little delay on my old laptop but it works for me. We will give Google Meet a try and use Jitsi as a backup.

I also saw some delay when Anna was speaking, but your video and audio were in sync.

Okay, so incoming and outgoing streams may not necessarily match. Perhaps, the paid option will be better…

The trial expired today, so from now on, we can use all features: meetings with up to 150 people, with optional recording. I’ve quickly tested the recording feature, and it seems to work.

Can volume of microphone be adjusted in live stream? I had to edit via old audacity to make it acceptable in volume.

@kofa Could you please provide the link for me to put in the OP? Thanks!

@paperdigits The thread is no longer on top before I log in. Does the pinning expire after a while?

Here’s a new meeting link (in Google Meet, those links actually live ‘forever’):

Note: the session will be recorded. Individual users may change their screen layout etc. without affecting what is recorded. We have no actual control over what is recorded (only what is shown in our individual browsers):

Recordings include the active speaker and anything that’s presented.

However, you can still pick another mode to view the participants while the meeting is on.

Important: When meetings are recorded the chat conversation log is also saved (for the duration of the video).

See What’s recorded in a video meeting at Record a video meeting - Google Meet Help for details.

We are already in, in case you want to join early.
Recording is running.

Wasn’t able to understand much (HOH). Had to postpone my G’MIC presentation. And from what I saw, I don’t think my mic test pass since it’s probably way too soft.
