Night Photo / HDR Look

I share your sentiments - I also don’t like to tinker with images too much. The simpler the better. Here is the result of a couple of minutes work with ART:

Trying to match the LR edit was harder than I thought it would be. This is still not 100%, but its already been 15min+. I eventually went with a strange module order to get what I wanted.

Not a fan of HDR, sorry, shadow/highlight define depth for me.

10 min edit. It would have taken much longer without presets and if I wasn’t already very familiar with the software, so I can sympathise with the time element. But the results are much better.

Used color to alpha (black) on duplicate (top) layer to brighten. Created a convolution layer using 2 original layer copies with Details>Gradient (G’MIC) on lower layer and the layer above set to Grain Extract. Set the resulting layer to Grain Merge. This gives some details back. Then, dupped that result and ran b/w>Emboss (G’MIC) set to value and lowered opacity to taste to darken the image a bit since it was way too bright (it also gives sort of a lucis feel as well). Then selectively used Wavelet denoise on the sky since it was a bit too noisy (might have missed some areas, but I am b it tired). Felt the street was still too bright so ran DCP Dehaze on base layer (merged all the previous work into a single layer then dupped; the resulting base layer is what I’m referring to) and selectively erased through the street area to taste and voila. Like Adams is know to say and I’ll paraphrase, a capture is not taken, it is made. lol

If I were to do a 2nd attempt, I would probably cheat and blend some Lucis into the mix. Figure I would try to not depend on my crutch for this one.

I don’t like HDR looks that actually look like HDR.

But that’s my interpretation of this style.

Hello, @Ogven

As an RT 5.12 user myself I really admire what @123Max has done with your night shot. What I’d like to offer up here for anyone learning RT is a somewhat alternate workflow to arrive at a more-or-less similar look. I basically substitute the CAM16 tool in RT’s Selective Editing tab for the dynamic range compression tool in its Exposure tab.

Yes, using the CAM16 algorithm in this case seems more adequate than Log Encoding. I try to refer more often to the beautifully written help page for Local Adjustments: Local Adjustments - RawPedia
