Now in love with colour

I’m a black and white shooter, who is starting to fall in love with colour. Once I wrapped my head around how Darktable worked, my brain just clicked into it. SO good (and SO free!!)

That is one beautiful shot! Thanks for sharing  - keep 'em coming :-). I would also be curious as to what you did to this photo in dt.

Nice shot thanks for sharing…generally uploads of jpgs are not that large…

Some compression and downsampling to get them to 2Mb or less is the convention…

Beautiful photo. It definitely gives me desktop wallpaper vibes. Like it looks almost too vast and perfect.

Thanks for the love on the photo. I know a couple of people have asked ‘how’ I worked on the photo. It’s hard to go into, I suppose, because I did a few things:

  • Tweaked exposure and black point
  • Tweaked main tone equalizer until I was happy with the result.
  • Adding a tone equalizer drawn mask to the sky, to bring out some of the cloud detail.
  • Tweaked colour balance, removing some blue, so that the emphasis was more on the green
  • Dropped the saturation down, then added a little global vibrance
  • Added an exposure drawn mask gradient on the ground, so that it’s darker nearer the bottom, drawing the eye upwards to the centre of the screen.
  • Gentle vignette

I think that’s about it.
