I think a photodiode would be better suited for this application then a ldr. Ldrs are kinda slow in response compared to photodiodes. And if you change the flashtrigger connector for the camera connector you can also use it to shoot lightning.
Thank you for your reply. LDR does the trick for the described setup, but I’ll try a photodiode instead as an experiment.

In practical terms this means that it’s possible to control the Photon board over the Internet using relatively simple requests.
As they say, it’s not because you can that you should. Why should such a simple device be Internet-dependent? Do you use the cloud to change the aperture on your camera?
I admit that using the Particle Photon board for the project is a bit of overkill, but it was a good learning experience. Also, using Photon makes it easier to tweak and upload code from any machine without physically connecting the board to it. For a more simple setup, you can use a regular Arduino board. In fact, I used an Arduino Leonardo for prototyping.
