This is a question that I pose for a friend who is interested to try dt on a Windows machine. Since I only run Manjaro I have no idea how to help him.
He has a new laptop (ASUS) with a 12th. gen Intel processor and a GeForce Nvidia 3060.
What are the steps that he need to take to get OpenCL running and is there some way to confirm that the co-processor is correctly running?
Install the nvidia driver, which is likely already done, and ensure the box is checked in darktable’s preferences. Since its a laptop, make sure the nvidia card is enabled before starting darktable.
You can verify its working by launching from the terminal C:\some\path\darktable.exe -d opencl
Is there some way to check if it is correctly running prior to installing dt?
If you look in the settings the display should be associated with graphics card. I am sure the driver is loaded. You might be able to install a newer one from Nvidia but if you have an Nvidia card opencl will generally work right out of the box. There are utilities to tweak things but its mostly related to gaming…
There is benchmark testing built in to DT so you can easily try with and without it enabled in the DT preferences and check the performance…
