OpenCL on Intel i3-12100 integrated UHD Graphics 730

I can’t enable OpenCL GPU Acceleration. (I hope I am not spamming by duplicating other OpenCL threads!)

Basically, it seems that clinfo finds a device, but darktable-cltest does not. I think the following snippets are the relevant bits:

$ cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Arch Linux"

$ lscpu
Model name: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-12100

$ clinfo
Number of platforms 1
  Platform Name Intel(R) OpenCL Graphics (integrated)
  Platform Version  OpenCL 3.0
Number of devices   1
  Device Name Intel(R) UHD Graphics 730
  Device Version    OpenCL 3.0 NEO

$ darktable-cltest
darktable 5.6.1 [linux]
Compile options:
  OpenCL                 -> ENABLED
[dt_get_sysresource_level] switched to `default'
  total mem:       15726MB
  available mem:   7863MB
  singlebuff:      122MB
[opencl_init] opencl library 'libOpenCL' found on your system and loaded, preference 'default path'

[check platform] platform 'Intel(R) OpenCL Graphics (integrated)' with key 'clplatform_intelropenclgraphicsintegrated' is NOT active
[opencl_init] found 0 device
[opencl_init] FINALLY: opencl PREFERENCE=YES is NOT AVAILABLE and NOT ENABLED

Based on other posts in the forum, I already tried deleting all “opencl” and “clplatform” lines from ~/.config/darktable/darktablerc.

It says that you don’t have Intel enabled. Is there a check on the checkbox under preferences?

Here is my darktable preferences screen:

Also, darktablerc states:
clplatform_intelropenclhdgraphics=TRUE

Something is odd. Is this flatpak? app image? self compile?

What are the config settings for that card in darktablerc? We used to blacklist NEO, but I think we remove it (I think).

I seem to have the same problem with my new T14 Gen 7 using the official 5.6.1 AppImage.

Operating System: Fedora Linux 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.2.5-200.fc44.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Graphics Processor: Intel® Graphics

Start a new thread with your clinfo.

I am using the Arch Linux package.

Here are the full compile options, in case that reveals anything surprising:

Compile options:
  Bit depth              -> 64 bit
  Exiv2                  -> 0.28.9
  Lensfun                -> 0.3.4
  Debug                  -> DISABLED
  SSE2 optimizations     -> ENABLED
  OpenMP                 -> ENABLED
  OpenCL                 -> ENABLED
  Lua                    -> ENABLED  - API version 9.7.0
  Colord                 -> ENABLED
  gPhoto2 -> ENABLED - Camera tethering is available
  OSMGpsMap -> ENABLED - Map view is available
  GMIC -> ENABLED - Compressed LUTs are supported
  GraphicsMagick         -> ENABLED
  ImageMagick            -> DISABLED
  libavif                -> ENABLED
  libheif                -> ENABLED
  libjxl                 -> ENABLED
  LibRaw                 -> ENABLED  - Version 0.22.0-Release
  OpenJPEG               -> ENABLED
  OpenEXR                -> ENABLED
  WebP                   -> ENABLED
  AI                     -> ENABLED

If I understand correctly, my darktablerc has no config settings for Intel UHD 730 integrated graphics, because it has never seen it as a “found” device. I think these are all of the OpenCL bits from darktablerc:

clplatform_amdacceleratedparallelprocessing=FALSE
clplatform_apple=FALSE
clplatform_intelropenclhdgraphics=TRUE
clplatform_nvidiacuda=TRUE
clplatform_openclon12=FALSE
clplatform_other=FALSE
clplatform_rusticl=TRUE

opencl=FALSE
opencl_fast=FALSE
opencl_library=
opencl_scheduling_profile=default
opencl_tune_headroom=FALSE

Needless to say, setting opencl=TRUE gets overwritten upon darktable launch.

I don’t get it. What’s the output from darktable-cltest -verbose?

Running darktable-cltest -d verbose adds the line:

[dt_dlopencl_init] found default opencl runtime library 'libOpenCL'

Something is not right. clinfo finds a device but dt doesn’t? I don’t know arch too much. How are you installing the opencl drivers?

Can you post the entire output from darktable-cltest -d verbose?

Thank you for all of your assistance. I had previously assumed that OpenCL was simply not available without an Nvidia or AMD card, but it sounds like the Intel integrated GPUs can, in theory, work.

The full output of darktable-cltest -d verbose is attached. Also attached is the clinfo output.

On Arch, I installed two packages earlier today: intel-compute-runtime and clinfo. I already had ocl-icd installed.

darktable-cltest_verbose.txt (1.8 KB)
clinfo.txt (35.5 KB)

I am clueless at this point. Maybe the system needs an OS restart?

I think this might be the solution.

That looks extremely promising. Thanks for following up with this helpful information.

I can confirm that darktable 5.6.2 fixes OpenCL support on my system. Many thanks!
