Peek-a-boo. Moonrise, Errigal

Managed to pull this image…

…kicking and screaming out of this image

But this one’s doing my head in.

Interested to see how you deal with deepening the blue in the top part of the sky, lose the halo around the moon and slap the fugly out of the bottom part of the sky.

tiff is a 4 image pano out of @krupkat xpano (good work man, thanks. Will be using it again)
Hands up anyone wants the tiffs/raws to play with…

note the .tif and .tiff - dt exported tif but xpano would only import tiffs hence the rename

I tried playing with this one, but I ended up with a lot of banding in the sky. Did you export this as a 16 bit or 8 bit tiff? I am presuming 8 bit and that may be resulting in the banding when I lift the exposure.

Hi
Good effort, reduced the halo, darkened the blue - A+
Yeah I noticed the banding too. Fed 16 bit tiffs into xpano then gave you the tiff from that, didnt look too closely at bit depth

My version…

Hi,
Yeah, that works too - softened it up a bit. Nice

Hi,
without looking at your xmp I’m thinking you hit it with exposure module - I tried that too but it pretty much doubled the size of the moon ('s why I only used tone eq. & various luminance sliders in cbrgb)
Tricky pulling detail out of the shadows and reducing impact of moon

If you check closely, the centre of the Moon looks less bright than the surrounding halo (at least on my phone).

Xpano only supports 8bit stitching at the moment, so that is probably why there is the banding… there will be a warning about this in the next release: Raw input warning by krupkat · Pull Request #79 · krupkat/xpano · GitHub

My try with Darktable. Started setting Input color profile “Lab” and used two instances of Color calibration. Not sure what I got.

Hi
Thats not half bad, might just steal it and give it a few tweaks
Ta very much

Hi,
Better get busy then, or maybe I’ll just have to think harder about what to stitch…

It’s a wonderful photo. I didn’t try to remove the banding in the sky, but I think it shouldn’t be difficult with an appropriate mask.

Yeah, I got a little out of hand.

A quick play in GIMP - just for the fun of it.
An old fashioned contrast mask and an (almost) black & white version.

hi
Well now, yeah, ok. Thats interesting
note to self - gotta remember Moonrise, Hernandez was taken in daylight, ‘late afternoon…’

Hi
Nice one, fulfilled the brief - darker blue, softer moon and more red than I got in the fugly.
