I keep seeing these Photoprism posts and it does interest me but I’m currently heavily invested running Digikam with a mariadb sql server for an almost 400K image collection on two NAS drives.
Can someone explain Photoprism to me so I understand better what it is all about and what the difference/benefit would be over a digikam setup?
What NAS? (like CPU and RAM)
Do you run it in Docker?
DS218+ user here and worry about the speed.
Currently do the Syno Photos things, which is, well, better than nothing, at least not dead slow. Had hope in Photos, but it’s out for a few years and doesn’t really develop further.
Photoprism basically runs as a web server on your NAS so you can access your 400K images from anywhere phone, laptop, browser. The real draw is the AI stuff it automatically detects faces, clusters them together, and labels images with what’s in them (animals, landscapes, etc.) so you don’t have to manually tag everything. You get powerful search filter features too
Thanks, I don’t really want to access my images from anywhere accept on my local network and I do not want to provide any outside access under any circumstances. Also, I have absolutely no patience or need for AI where it concerns photography. The filters in digikam seem extremely powerful and capable for now.
But your answer clears up the difference and for that I thank you.
