darktable and a bit of GIMP for burning out the face. Q. Can one do some local dodgin/burning in darktable?
IMG_0626.cr2.xmp (50.5 KB)
Sure
Edit: I did this by tone curve, but one could also use local masks with the exposure module, what would correspond more to real dodging & burning.
Hey boys and girls,
here are my attempts. I see, @shreedharhas had similar ideas for crops
I put a little drama and all this with minimum invasive edit
@yteaot, thank you for playing with this image.
RawTherapee neutral
G’MIC: “Pyramid Processing”, “DCP Dehaze”, “Mixer [PCA]”, “Tone enhance”
GIMP plugins John Lakkas: “Color Balance” and “Color Grading”
GIMP plugin “Wavelet Denoise” for CbCr
G’MIC “Curves” and “Local Contrast Enhancement”
@yteaot Nice picture!
Here is my take in black & white, processed with PhotoFlow except for a final touch in GIMP, where I removed the tree branches in the top/right corner using the resynthesizer plug-in:
IMG_0626.pfi (57.3 KB)Oooh, there’s nothing like a roiling storm cloud to expose the energy of nature. With rawproc…
I tried ludicrous chroma saturation, but even I have limits…
@yteaot Thanks for sharing the drama.
@shreedhar Wind burnt face.
@ggbutcher More drama.
@sls141 Drama intensifies. First is my fav so far.
Bonus The clouds and wind remind me of the opening sequence of the film Castle in the Sky. Couldn’t find a video of it (likely due to copyright enforcement) but here the music for it. In case the embedded video of the concert doesn’t work, here is the link: 0:52:54 Kimi o Nosete (Carrying You).
Had lots of fun with this one. As I couldn’t top any of the excellent entries above, I decided to transform the photo IMG_0626.cr2. It looks like a bog now.
