RT only (little unsharp mask with Gimp)
Finally decided what to do. Here is my take.
1. PhotoFlow
→ HL mode (blend) → linear Rec2020 (no clipping) → 32f
2. gmic
→ fill unwanted pixels → smooth (guided, 1/2) → adjust brightness, contrast (curves, face) → my filter (unpublished) → contrast enhancement → rotate → crop → sharpen → resize → frame
Zoom 100% to enjoy!
I think she’s become a named storm.
Or maybe a distant galaxy.
Alternatively, one can always go down the mad route.
Darktable, Filmic, Color balance × 3 and some local contrast enhancements :

EDIT : forgot to mention split-frequency editing with the new “retouch” module
Wow, what a fantastic result!
What is RT5.4? My google-fu failed me.
It is raw therapee, version 5.4.
I’ve been looking at this one from one of the first moments I found out about this site and never felt confident enough to attempt an edit. Well…
Tried to keep it, what I would call natural. I don’t see any reason why Mairi’s face needs to be smoothed or altered in any way. I did need to balance the sharpening: Show all the little details in her face and let the motif of her cardigan(??) be as clear as possible or…
Enough talk, here’s what I came up with:
mairi.troisieme.xmp (13.4 KB) darktable 3.1.0
A bit late to play the game but here is another shot with very basic filmic processing and some de-saturation. Looks a lot darker on this site than my screen jpg.
also quite late to comment. The teal and orange movie effect from @anon41087856 trial is subtle and nice.
