Please recommend a wired mouse

Not due to precision, i just may be less annoying to be able to control a slider without mouse being jumpy because of jitter, or if it won’t switch line at times e.g. to the slider (like legendary mx518 suffered) because of the prediction.

Thanks for all the input. I am still looking for a wired mouse. It doesn’t have to have program ability or extra buttons. If the scroll wheel is accurate, that would be good enough.

There must be a few out there that are considered to be the best for simplicity and accuracy.

I have the latest generation Intellimouse Explorer (it’s been refreshed many times without a name change) and it’s my main wired mouse at my desk at work.

CRUD. Just checked my Amazon order history, and the product in question marketed as “Classic Intellimouse” is discontinued. :frowning:

At home I now have a Razer Basilisk Pro V3 - an upgrade from the original Basilisk X that I lost. Since I’m usually using laptops I want a wireless mouse, and the Basilisk Pro (unlike the original X) actually can be wired OR wireless.

I don’t see that there are any left-handed ones, that keeps me out of the opportunity to use one of them.

In the meantime I continue to use a Logitech.

I had suggested the one I use because it could be used wired or not… I have used a few mice… This one I have now has two modes for the scroll wheel…ie with and without an incremental movement. If I push the lock then each small roll has a physical notch and this will correspond to the setting in DT if the min increment is 1% then each little notch is 1 % …if I unlock it then is goes into a sort of flywheel mode that is uncoupled and you can literally fling the wheel to rapidly advance or apply a large change… to further control this you can go into DT and set the scale of changes larger or smaller for many controls… this is meant to allow for when you would use arrow keys but the scroll wheel relates to this as well… The scroll wheel on the MX is a nice wide one made of metal with a Knurled finish and a small groove in the middle to give a small area for your finger tip to articulate into… its a nice mouse but maybe not what you want but certainly accurate enough for sliders etc…

These have worked for me:

  • Logitech M325 or M325S are wireless, small and comfortable.
  • Logitech MX Vertical or Evoluent VM4 are vertical mice, can be wired, wireless or both. I recommend these over Anker’s. Of course, Anker wins in price.

Interesting. We have four Logitech wireless mice in constant use in the house, and there is no crosstalk.

Honestly, I prefer a simple, dependable wired mouse like a Logitech M90.
I’ve tried the latest €120 Logitech MX Master, totally unworkable scroll wheel.
I’ve tried vertical mice, but as you click 'sideways", i.e. you have no surface to click against, on a lot of mouseclicks the mouse pointer shoots away resulting in false clicks
I’ve tried trackballs, unworkable as each time you need to release the ball, the pointer shoots in any arbitrary direction…

Just give me a dependable, cheap solution…

I experienced this many years ago, so hopefully
they have fixed that dilemma since.

???

Yeah, modern wireless mice (even Bluetooth ones) are vastly superior to 5-10 years ago.

It’s why you now see wireless products succeeding in markets that were previously “wired or bust, latency is everything!” (gaming)

I am talking about the Logitech Mx master 3S. The scroll wheel has this built-in ratchet (?) mechanism, when you use it on a slider in DT, the value of the slider goes correctly up or down, the moment you let go of the wheel it
‘tumbles’ to the next tooth in the mechanism and the slider you where on shoots up or down.

Unbearable…

My old Logitech MX was miles and miles better with far less gimmicks

Anyone using the Microsoft Intellimouse Pro or the Logitech M500s?

I tried the M5**, but I still prefer my recommendation:

I suppose they are lower tier, but work for me.

I also think mice are very personal choices, so give them all a try.

There is a button to engage the incremental mode … if set works fine… Have never experienced what you describe. I could imagine it in the other mode which unlocks the scroll wheel… either you had a defective one or it must have been set wrong

I agree, I’ve used logitech’s locking wheels and they are great, I wish all mice had a free spinning mode for the wheel. Currently I’m using a logitech pro x superlight and it has made wonders to my joints, the low weight helped quite a bit.

I don’t doubt that a vertical one would’ve helped even more, but I’ll leave that experiment for the future as long as this one lasts

I am still using it. I’ve looked from time to time for a replacement, as it is not produced anymore and new ones for sale are very expensive. I’d like to hear from anyone who has used it before and has found a suitable replacement.

I have it set so the bottom left button in left click, the top left is paste, the top right in right click, and the bottom right is ctrl+tab.

That’s my favorite too. That said, if a wireless mouse is an option, I would go with a Logitech that has their “nano” receiver — they are also very reliable. I would stay away from anything that connects via Bluetooth etc.

I never had a Logitech mouse I disliked, even their economy models are great and provide good value. That said, I try to make my workflow as mouse-free as possible, and use the keyboard for navigation and a Wacom tablet for Darktable.

Which model?

I got mine ages ago (they last forever), it is a Wacom Bamboo, I think this product line is currently called Intuous, maybe the larger one is better for image editing, but I have no experience with the current lineup.
