Purple starburst

The purple flower of the allium, shot with a Yongnuo flash at 1/4 power against a light background. The flash defines most of the exposure and underexposes the background - bit of a surprise in post I’ll admit as I do not often work with flash.

In this case this resulted in a smudgy and uneven background. I duplicated the layer in Gimp (after processing the raw with DT) and selected the background on the top layer, deleting it to transparency. I then used a pot-belly curve on the bottom layer, followed by a gaussian blur to even out the background. Applied a highpass filter and some unsharp masking to the top layer.

Very cool, an unusual perspective for a flower, I like it!
