Random thoughts and finds...

Sometimes you just gotta unwind.
Feel free to just spout random thoughts or share something from your day.

I stopped at a local thrift store after work today and managed to find about 200 sheets of Canon and Epson 8x11 photo paper, plus an old selenium light meter.
Since I started photography I’ve been finding all sorts of deals on gear and accessories.

Finding time for creative endevors has been hard. Why am I tired all the time?

I’ve found punching .22 calibre holes in paper targets (at the range) with my Ruger Mark II Government Target Model is lots of fun and is rapidly becoming addictive.

I wish the range was open more than just four days a week. I wish infinitely more I lived on sufficient property out in the country (instead of in this overcrowded sardine-packed *&$^%! neighborhood) so I could practice on my property instead of driving 20 miles to the range (there are other reasons as well).

I’ve had a pretty rough day. I’m over 70 years old and I had to have my two lower wisdom teeth extracted. My upper ones were extracted in the early 70s. To make things worse, I could not undergo anesthesia due to a neurological disease, so I was aware the whole time.

Ouch Tim…sorry to hear that it must have been very uncomfortable… I hope that it heals quickly…and maybe they were able to give you at least something post op for pain… get well soon…

Oof… That’s rough. Were you able to at least receive a local anesthetic?

If any of us had the answer to that, we’d have all the time we need… Because we’d be millionaires.

Hope all is going well.

@Tim sorry to hear that. I put in about 50 hours of dentist/endodontist/periodontist chair time last year, with almost no pain. But I still remember the pain from my wisdom teeth extraction almost 50 years ago. I hope you are at least allowed pain killers.

@lphilpot it’s still shooting, even if it’s not a camera, eh?

As for myself, I resisted buying a lens that was on sale since the Black Friday sales, and praised myself for overcoming GAS. But tomorrow, I am going to cave on that lens and another one because our Canadian dollar is poised to sag, because the Grifter in Chief wants to impose a 25% tariff on everything from Canada. Sigh.

Geez, hope you feel better soon and that we are a helpful distraction

I saw a post today with a link to a Canadian site with international shipping, citing th e weak Canadian dollar and exchange rate as.offering a discount for Americans.

Wow, that sounds like a horror trip. I’m happy that you are already able to write here in the forum again.

Yeah, sympathy on the health issues

Finally managed to attach a peak design strap to an RX100 and resisted the temptation to buy a
new micro four thirds lens

would seem good for taking photographs in the rain though being easy to operate in one of those rain cover plastic bag gadgets

there is an even cheaper version of the Canon 50 mm f 1.8 by the same company in theory might be better for bokeh:

the more fantastic plastic or niftier 50

having the reverse problem normal of trying to stop random thoughts rather than find some

I used to like the Boomtown Rats song don’t believe what you read maybe don’t believe what you think too

To quote Howard Stern ( gummi points for the person who knows where the quote is from)

This would be much more fun without an audience. I wish you would all go away.

Here in Portugal unless it’s a very risky case, it is usually done without any general anesthesia. This is not to diminish your efforts, It’s quite a traumatic procedure and IMO we are behind the US when it comes to this. I have two impacted ones that so far have not give me trouble, but I know it’s a ticking time bomb and I dread the day it blows up  Wishing you a quick recovery and no further problems

Yes, quite a few numbing shots into my jaw. And post-surgical, some very effective pain relievers.

wisdom tooth extracted last year. It had been supporting one end of a bridge too, and was totally broken off so it had to dug out.

Local anaesthesia was total. No pain. But hey, it was absolutely a traumatic experience! Hope you heal up soon. I now have two nice bits of titanium supporting a nice new bridge

I’ve been very sad this week:

When I had a hard day, and things were not going great, watching this liitle guy’s videos really helped me through.

My wisdom teeth (all three of 'em!) were extracted when I was 44. Fully erupted with no issues of their own, but my teeth were so tightly packed together as a result that I was getting cavities on my molars because I couldn’t keep everything clean enough. So out they came. General anesthesia with plenty of Demerol injected into my mouth, followed by a prescription of Demerol caplets for later. I took one and it turned me into Tim Conway’s old man…

old-to-slow

Slurred speech, slow response and a shuffling walk. But man. oh man – I was feeling no pain!!

After a few days and no subsequent pain, the rest went down the toilet.

Yep! And I’m more accurate with the 22 than with my 9mm, which isn’t saying too much. LOL 22 ammo is 1/2 the cost (or less) of 9mm range ammo (never mind anything else). But I need to practice with the 9mm nonetheless. Good thing it’s not a 380 or 45! All about supply and demand.
